Review of The Pursuit of Happyness

Well, I got The Pursuit of Happyness today from Netflix, stuck it in the DVD player this afternoon and watched it. I haven’t watched it until now because I figured it would be a tear jerker and I really, really hate to cry.

Well, it did make me cry, but not as much as I had thought. What an amazing movie. A heart wrenching tale for sure. Will Smith does an fantastic job. Not only is he an amazing action hero, it’s amazing at drama, too. A very talented man, Will Smith, and so hot, too! I loved him in Hancock as well. It got pretty bad reviews, but I enjoyed it a great deal!

It breaks my heart that so many people are homeless. No one should be homeless. It’s a tragedy in our society, in our country, in this day and age. It shouldn’t be… and yet it is. There are very serious things wrong with our country.

It makes me thankful and utterly grateful that my parents gave me the skills I need to support myself and my fur family. I can’t imagine how awful it would be to be homeless. To have no place to go, no friends to help me, no family to give me a hand. I’m so lucky I have a wonderful family and a great support network of friends who would not only take me in, but my husband and my dogs and cats as well, if needed. :)

Thank you friends and family. I love you all. And I wish with all my heart this country, this world, will change and people, someday, will never be homeless.

So no diet pills for me… just a happy healthy life. Though every day I worry that my life will crumble. I worry that I’ll lose my job and my house. That is why I want to retire from the State and have a pension. That would be security. That is what I dream and pray and hope for every day of my life.

Dropped the WWW

Filed Under (Daily Posts, Techie) by User ImageCynthia Blue [More Me!] on 07-16-2008 5:21 pm

For a long time now I’ve included the www. in my domain name URLs. Recently… probably less than a month ago, I decided that I would get rid of the www and see how I liked it.

I have my server set up so that if you put the www in, it’ll still find my websites. So no one will get lost! But I really, really like having no www on my domain names. The www is just messy, more to type, and takes up too much room in the domain name.

So it’s gone! What do you think? Do you keep the www or do you drop it on your domains?

Now that my blogs are upgraded to the newest version of Wordpress, my emails are cleaned out (I have over 600 in my trash… ugh) and I’ve posted a post or two, time to go watch a movie and wish I had wall mounted home theater speakers to go along with my HDTV!

Entrecard and SezWho

I’m a member of both Entrecard and SezWho. I joined up with SezWho about a month or so ago because I saw a post about it over on Eyespi20 and it looked like a good commenting system. And I’d already played around with Intense Debate and Disqus, as you might know if you read my blog off and on.

Well I didn’t like that Intense Debate and Disqus stored my comments off my blog. I like having ownership of my own comments. Maybe I’m a bit of a control freak… okay, I know I’m a bit of a control freak. So I like to have my comments stored here, on my server, with my blog. And so I switched to SezWho.

I like the idea of having a commenting community, and SezWho provides that in a good way. They are growing, too, and I hope to be able to meet and keep friends lists on SezWho. I really don’t like their Red Carpet Widget, though, it’s big and cumbersome, so i am not using that on my blogs. But I like the SezWho environment and community.

So I think it’s great that Entrecard and SezWho have partnered. Now if you post a comment on a SezWho enabled blog, you earn Entrecard Credits. Which is very cool! Though I post comments on other blogs regarldess of that. But hrm.. maybe it will inspire me to post more comments on those blogs!

Impulse Control

Two things you might hear a lot about if you are in the dog training world are Frustration Tolerance and Impulse Control. Dogs have to learn these things in order to be trained well, and to function in a human based world. Even wild animals learn both of things at a very young age.

I think both of these things translate well in the human world, too. I’ve been thinking about Impulse Control a lot lately. Mainly in the area of eating. I am pretty sure I’m addicted to sugar. And chocolate. And probably salt. I love them all and can eat them all day long.

I get major cravings in the evenings for sugar and chocolate. And usually I give in. Eating right is not only about choosing the right foods. I think a huge part of it is emotionally based, and not giving in to those cravings, and learning about that impulse control. Just because we feel something, either emotionally or physically, giving into it and doing it is not always the best thing!

Sometimes it is. Sometimes we need to follow our gut. But usually in the area of eating, in our society, in our day and age, it’s not. Following the gut, or filling the gut, isn’t a good thing! Eating less, eating healthier, helps us feel better in the long run, and live longer too! And when we lose weight, we can all win trophies for ourselves!

Sick of my Neck

Yup.. I’m sick of a body part. I’m tired of my neck cracking and popping. I’ve been going to the Chiropractor for a couple of weeks now, and it seems a little bit better, but it’s not 100% good yet.

I think a lot of it has to do with the tension in my neck. I think maybe I need to go get a full body massage, too. One that is really deep and will get into my muscles and loosen them up. I think that sitting at the computer all day, most days, really tenses my neck muscles up and I have to relax them.

But I like the Chiropractor. He massaged my neck yesterday, too, and that helped a lot. I just have to learn to relax while I’m on the computer, dangit, and I just forget to! I get so intense on the computer that I block out anything else. Yup… that’s an addiction for you! But I think I balance it out okay.

so neck, get better darnit!

So Many Plugins

Filed Under (Techie) by User ImageCynthia Blue [More Me!] on 07-09-2008 11:01 am

I have a ton of Wordpress Plugins on my blogs. I even have a plugin that shows all my plugins. :) If you want to see my plugins:

Here’s my plugin page

I’m writing this mainly because I just installed another plugin… I reply to my comments whenever I can, whenever I remember, and whenever I have time. Which is most of the time, I hope! Anyway… I like my comment plugins, I have more of them than any other, and I wanted a way to thread the comments so I can see my replies to the comments near the comment itself.

So I found Yet another threaded Comments plugin. And it works with my Comment Email Responder. I hope it works okay with the rest of my comment plugins too… I haven’t actually tested it yet. But I’ll go have a look!

Please let me know if you have any problems commenting. You can email me at web at tiptail dot com.

Old Sailing

Husband SailingI now have just about 15.4 Gig of photos on my latop. :) I’ve been digging up old backups from CD and DVD and from my husband’s computer so that I can arrange them all and organize them all and back them all up together. Then I’ll probably put a copy in a safety deposit box so as to keep them very safe.

I love photos. This is of my husband when we went sailing on the San Francisco Bay back in 1998. I think it was 1998, anyway… the pictures don’t have a date stamp on them and I’m not positive about the year! But I’m pretty sure that’s it. We didn’t stay at any Hilton Head rentals in San Fran… but I’ll tell ya, it was a total riot sailing into Fisherman’s Warf from the ocean side, finding a slip, and staying overnight!

I don’t think I’d ever do it again. We were pretty big dorks and didn’t know what we were doing sailing. And I wouldn’t feel safe now that I’m older and much more mortal. :) But I’m glad we did it, we got some great memories and pictures!

Happy Birthday Sis!

My sister’s birthday is today! I won’t say how old she is… she is four years older than me. :) She’s the best sister in the world. I remember when I was a little kid, I’d chase her around trying to kiss her and she hated it! :) LOL

I love having a great sister. We have a lot more in common now than when we were kids. We are great friends too! Family is awesome. :) And we’ve both been at our employment for about 20 years now, how scary is that!

Happy Birthday Chris!
