I’ve Outgrown Thunderbird

Yes.. I hate to admit it, but I am going to move away from Thunderbird. I like Thunderbird. I like the layout, the name, the spam filter… I don’t want to stop using Thunderbird. Really I don’t. But there is one thing that has been bothering the heck out of me for the last while that I just can’t deal with anymore.
Thunderbird is beastly slow.
I get a ton of emails. I don’t know how many a ton is… but it’s a lot. And, apparently, Thunderbird can’t handle the number I get. If I don’t clean out my folders on a regular basis, Thunderbird practically slows to a crawl. Clicking on an email to read it can take upwards of 10 seconds or more. It’s annoying beyond acceptance.
So I did some looking to find an alternative to Thunderbird and I’m trying out The Bat! for a replacement. It is supposed to be a good solid email client that can handle thousands of emails without a blink. The downside is it has a cost. And I’m pretty poor right now… so I’m going to try it out for the 30 day free trial and see how I like it.
So far, I like it a lot. It is said to be for power users, which really I am. I can configure it to minute detail, it seems. And, from what I’ve read on reviews, there’s a lot more that it can do that I don’t even know about yet. So, we’ll see how it goes over the next 30 days!

I got tired of Firebird quite some time ago. I liked it overall as you said, but it just wasn’t right for me. I have ended back up with Outlook even though I do not like that either really. I look forward to hearing how you like this Bat.

Hi Olivier… yeah I have a gmail account too, mainly for email lists. I love how it groups messages. However, I prefer having a client on my laptop. And since I bring my laptop everywhere, I can get my mail most places, too.

HI new zealand map… oh I just can’t bring myself to user another Microsoft product if I can avoid it.
I am really liking The Bat! a lot. It’s very powerful, I can tweak minute details (which I love to do) and it is fast. We’ll see how it functions when I get a ton of emails!
